New GPU Side-Channel Attack Developed By Researchers - Modern GPUs Are Vulnerable

Researchers from four US universities created 'GPU.zip,' a new GPU side-channel attack exploiting data compression for leaking sensitive visuals. They demonstrated it via Chrome, but despite reporting the issue to GPU manufacturers in March 2023, no fixes have been issued by AMD, Apple, Arm, NVIDIA, Qualcomm, or Google as of September 2023. The flaw is detailed in a paper by researchers from the University of Texas at Austin, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Washington, and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, to be presented at the 45th IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy.
