Does it run on-demand

Question

Can this program be configured to only run on-demand. In other words I do not want it running all the time, even in the background. When it is installed is the default setting to run on-demand or in the background. Reading the various pieces of information it is unclear to me what mode it runs in.

A1RunGuard does not work in the background.
It intercepts the starting pf the monitored processes.
The service is used for updating the program.
