Microsoft has officially rolled out its AI-powered Recall feature to Windows Insiders using Snapdragon-based Copilot+ PCs in the Dev Channel, following delays earlier this year. Users can try Recall with Windows 11 Preview Build 26120.2415, with support for AMD and Intel-powered PCs coming soon. Recall periodically captures screenshots of active windows, analyzes them with on-device AI, and saves the data in an encrypted SQLite database, enabling users to search screenshots using natural language.
To address privacy concerns raised after Recall's initial announcement, Microsoft made it an opt-in feature requiring Windows Hello for authentication and added measures like filtering sensitive data and excluding specific apps, websites, or private sessions. Users can adjust settings to disable or delete snapshots and customize what data Recall saves.
Enterprise devices will have Recall disabled by default, giving IT administrators control over its activation. Microsoft emphasized that snapshot data remains local, encrypted, and inaccessible to third parties or Microsoft itself. Future updates will offer options for securely backing up encryption keys.
Additionally, Microsoft introduced the Click to Do (Preview) feature, which uses AI to suggest actions based on screen content. Currently available only within the Recall interface, Click to Do is also optional and operates locally, safeguarding user privacy.
