March Windows Update Accidentally Removes Copilot from Some Systems

Microsoft has confirmed that the March 2025 cumulative updates for Windows 10 and Windows 11 mistakenly uninstall the Copilot digital assistant from certain devices.

The issue affects users who installed the KB5053598 (Windows 24H2) and KB5053606 (Windows 10 22H2) updates, with Microsoft acknowledging that Copilot is unintentionally removed and unpinned from the taskbar.

Microsoft has not yet explained why this is happening and has not listed the issue on its Windows release health dashboard, where it usually provides updates on known bugs.

The company is currently working on a fix but advises affected users to reinstall Copilot from the Microsoft Store and manually pin it back to the taskbar in the meantime.

This is not the first time Microsoft has had problems with Copilot; in June 2024, the company had to remove a Copilot app that was mistakenly installed through buggy Edge updates.

Previously, Microsoft also faced backlash from IT admins after adding Copilot to Windows Server 2025 preview builds before later removing it.

More recently, Microsoft introduced a native Copilot app for Windows Insiders and a new press-to-talk feature, allowing users to interact with it via voice commands.

Until a permanent fix is released, users experiencing the issue can manually restore Copilot if they wish, though not all Microsoft customers are enthusiastic about the AI assistant.
