Microsoft has addressed a problem in Exchange Online where emails from Gmail were wrongly flagged as spam due to a faulty machine learning model.
The issue, labeled EX1064599, began on April 25 and caused legitimate messages to be routed to users' junk folders.
The company explained that the model mistakenly classified valid emails as threats because they resembled known spam patterns.
By May 1, Microsoft had rolled back the flawed model and confirmed that this resolved the issue.
During the disruption, admins could implement custom rules to allow Gmail messages through. Microsoft is now reviewing its machine learning processes to prevent similar problems in the future.
