Microsoft Edge’s New ‘Journeys’ AI Summaries May Cost $20 a Month

Microsoft is experimenting with a new Edge feature called Journeys, designed to transform browsing history into organized summaries. However, early reports suggest the tool will only be available with a $20 monthly Copilot Pro subscription. While Edge mainly relies on local AI models like Phi-4 instead of cloud-based Copilot, Microsoft may use this as an incentive to push more users toward Copilot Pro.

Copilot Pro also unlocks extra AI credits across Microsoft apps such as Word, PowerPoint, Notepad, and Paint. Currently, Journeys can only be enabled in Edge Canary through hidden settings, and though the feature doesn’t fully function yet, Microsoft plans to expand testing soon. The company claims browsing data will remain stored locally, not used for AI training or advertising, easing potential privacy concerns.

When active, Journeys will group related browsing sessions, turning them into interactive summaries that help users quickly resume tasks. While this could improve productivity, many question whether the feature provides enough value to justify the extra $20 monthly fee.
