Windows 11 KB5064081 Preview Update Brings Task Manager Fixes and New Features

Microsoft has released the Windows 11 KB5064081 preview cumulative update for version 24H2, introducing 36 features and changes. As part of its monthly optional non-security updates, this release focuses on testing new tools and improvements before September’s Patch Tuesday. A major highlight is the overhaul of Task Manager’s CPU usage reporting, which now uses a standardized formula across all tabs for consistent and accurate metrics. Previously, CPU usage could appear inflated or mismatched due to reliance on “Processor Utility,” but the new method aligns with third-party monitoring tools. For users who prefer the old view, a “CPU Utility” column can be enabled in the Details tab.

Other key additions include enhancements to Recall, lock screen widgets, taskbar features, redesigned privacy prompts, File Explorer updates, and improvements to Windows Hello authentication. New personalization options are rolling out for widgets, while Click to Do now provides an interactive tutorial for quicker task execution. PowerShell 2.0 is also being fully removed, marking the end of legacy support. Alongside these changes, multiple bug fixes improve stability in input methods, audio services, login, and file system handling.

Two known issues remain: false CertificateServicesClient errors and performance stuttering when using NDI for streaming, though Microsoft is actively deploying fixes. The update can be installed manually or through Windows Update, with gradual rollout continuing over the coming weeks.
