Microsoft has confirmed that recent Windows 11 updates are causing the password sign-in option to disappear from the lock screen interface. This issue affects systems running Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2 that have installed updates released since August 2025, including the KB5064081 preview update. The problem occurs for users who have multiple sign-in methods enabled, such as a PIN, fingerprint, and password.
Although the password icon is not visible, the functionality remains. Users can still access the password field by hovering their cursor over the blank space where the icon should be located and clicking to reveal the text box. After entering their credentials, they can sign in normally. Microsoft is actively developing a permanent solution but has not provided a specific timeline for the fix.
This is not the only problem introduced by recent updates. Microsoft has previously addressed other issues, including playback failures for DRM-protected videos and severe performance lag in streaming software. The company continues to work on resolving these various bugs as they are reported by users, highlighting the ongoing challenges of maintaining OS stability with frequent updates.
