Microsoft has released three new Windows 11 Insider builds across Dev, Beta, and Canary channels, introducing significant policy updates and user experience improvements. The Dev and Beta builds share identical features, including an enhanced policy for removing preinstalled Microsoft Store applications. IT administrators can now dynamically remove MSIX and APPX packages by adding their Package Family Names to a multi-text list within Group Policy settings. This functionality currently works through Group Policy while Intune integration remains in development.
The Windows setup experience now allows users to customize their user folder names during the Device Name page, building on previous Insider improvements. A major kernel policy change removes default trust for cross-signed third-party drivers, requiring compatibility testing through the Windows Hardware Compatibility Program instead. The feature operates in audit mode for at least one hundred hours and three reboots before determining whether enforcement can safely activate.
Point-in-time restore functionality now presents local administrators with a UAC-protected settings dialog displaying available restore points and recommending power source connection during recovery. The Drag Tray feature has been renamed to Drop Tray with its settings relocated from Nearby Sharing to the Multitasking section. Pen settings now offer a "Same as Copilot key" option for the tail button functionality. File Explorer context menu refinements have been temporarily paused for further development, while reliability improvements include better preferred display language handling and removal of spurious sfc/scannow error messages.
