Microsoft has added a new utility called Window Hopper to its PowerToys toolkit, allowing users to switch between windows of the currently focused application. The feature operates similarly to Alt+Tab but exclusively cycles through open windows belonging to the active app, activated by a configurable Alt+backtick shortcut. This proves particularly useful when managing multiple browser tabs, terminals, File Explorer windows, or editor instances simultaneously without distraction from other applications. The update also includes a compact mode for the Command Palette quick launcher, positioning it as a search box at a customizable vertical position.
Additional enhancements include linked controls in PowerDisplay for adjusting brightness across all displays simultaneously, and Windows-key activation for the Shortcut Guide introduced in June. The latest version also debuts DemoMirror for screen mirroring to a second monitor and a new Mouse Highlighter ripple mode for visual click effects. Originally launched during Windows 95 as a collection of developer-created tools, Microsoft revived PowerToys in 2019 as an open-source utility pack for enhancing Windows functionality.
