New Ransomwae Family Adopts Cerber Ransomware, Targets Atlassian Confluence and GitLab Servers

Cerber ransomware operation was launched back in 2016 and eventually, the ransomware disappeared around 2019. However, Cerber is back, targeting victims with Windows and Linux encryptors and demanding ransom ranging from 1000$ to 3000$. According to the Emisoft CTO expert Fabian Wosar, the new variant is quite different from its predecessor. For example, the new one uses the Crypto++ library, while the older variant used Windows CryptoAPI libraries. The code differences and the appearance of the Linux version, which previously didn't exist, lead researchers into thinking that the ransomware has been adopted by the unknown threat actor.
