Well, folks, Apple is at it again. This time they've decided to bless the older iPhones and iPads with a fix for the recently exploited CoreGraphics vulnerability. You know, the one that could let hackers run wild on your device? Yeah, that one.
The flaw, dubbed CVE-2026-86950 (because why not give it a code name that sounds like a secret agent), has a severity score of 8.8 on the CVSS scale. It’s an out-of-bounds write that could lead to arbitrary code execution, which is techie speak for “bad news.” If a cyber-attack were to occur, it would likely involve a maliciously crafted file trying to worm its way into your data. Fun, huh?
Apple had the audacity to roll out patches last month for their newest software versions, leaving those clinging onto older versions at risk. But don’t worry; they’ve now decided to extend their generosity to include iOS 18.7.11 and related iPadOS. You just need to have a device old enough to be featured in a museum—like the iPhone XS, XS Max, XR, and a few lucky iPads from the 7th generation onward.
In true Apple fashion, their comment on the situation was just vague enough to make you wonder if they really care. They acknowledged that this high-severity flaw might have been exploited against some “specific individuals” before iOS 27 hit the shelves—who says Apple doesn’t prioritize the elite?
Oh, and while they were at it, they also patched a couple of other minor issues you may want to know about. One of them involved leaking sensitive information via an app (CVE-2026-65339) and another where malicious apps could access your camera without your say-so (CVE-2026-86990). You know, the usual privacy invasions!
As if that weren’t enough, Apple also unleashed a flurry of updates for their latest operating systems, fixing an impressive number of vulnerabilities across various components. Sure, they didn’t admit that any of these flaws were exploited, but hey, better safe than sorry, right?
So, if you haven’t updated your ancient device yet, now might be a good time—unless you just love living on the edge.
