Compelling Fixes in Latest Optional Windows 11 Update

Microsoft has issued a new optional update, KB5074105, for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2. While this C-update is not mandatory, the company provides strong incentives for installing it. These non-security updates typically deliver valuable improvements and new features beyond just security patches.

A key fix resolves a significant bug where File Explorer and the system shell could fail during startup. This issue caused the desktop taskbar to be absent and the interface to become unresponsive upon initial login, particularly when specific applications were set to launch automatically. The update directly corrects this Explorer.exe hanging problem.

Beyond this, the update introduces several other important enhancements. It removes the requirement for a clean installation to enable a certain security feature in some scenarios. It also strengthens system file protection by triggering a User Account Control prompt when accessing storage settings.

Further corrections address problems with Windows activation during upgrades and system freezes when opening Windows Terminal with administrator privileges. Additionally, a bug causing desktop icons to rearrange themselves randomly has been resolved. Users can review the full list of changes in the official update documentation.
