Fake WhatsApp app allows hackers to spy on iPhone users

Cybersecurity researchers at Citizen Lab and journalists at Motherboard has spotted a fake WhatsApp app, linked to an Italian company Cy4Gate, that specializes on “lawful interception” technology - a spyware that is used by law enforcement bodies, intelligence agencies, and governments. The fake WhatsApp app allows the attackers to get the device's unique modifier (UDID) and its unique IMEI. It is unknown yet whether the app steals any other data.
