File Explorer Freeze Bug Addressed By Microsoft
Microsoft has resolved a known problem in Windows 11 and Windows Server systems where File Explorer freezes after checking a file's effective access permissions. Users clicking the "View effective access" button may encounter a perpetual "Computing effective access..." message without any query results displayed. Even after closing the Advanced Security settings dialog, the explorer.exe process continues to consume CPU resources, resulting in File Explorer freezing. Microsoft has released an optional cumulative update (KB5027303) for Windows 11 22H2 users to address the issue, and it will be made available to all affected Windows users in the upcoming July Patch Tuesday cumulative updates.
