Google Chrome Begins Disabling uBlock Origin Amid Manifest V3 Rollout

Google is continuing its phased deprecation of Manifest V2-based extensions, including the popular ad blocker uBlock Origin, as part of its transition to Manifest V3 in Chrome.

Manifest V3, designed to enhance performance and restrict extensions' access to network requests, significantly limits the functionality of ad blockers and privacy tools.

As a result, some users have already seen uBlock Origin automatically disabled in their browsers, with Chrome providing only options to remove or manage the extension.

While not all users have been affected yet, Google has confirmed that the rollout is happening gradually, with full deprecation expected by June 2025 for most users.

Enterprise users and certain individuals will have a temporary option to continue using Manifest V2 extensions through a special policy until mid-2025.

Those impacted can switch to Manifest V3-compatible alternatives, such as uBlock Origin Lite, though it lacks the advanced filtering capabilities of the original version.

With Manifest V3 becoming the standard, Chrome users relying on robust ad-blocking may need to explore alternative solutions or even consider switching to browsers that still support Manifest V2 extensions.
