Google is reportedly preparing to launch a "Shielded Email" feature that lets users create disposable email aliases for signing up for online services, helping to reduce spam and safeguard their primary email address. This feature was discovered through a recent Android Play Services teardown and functions by forwarding messages from these aliases to the user’s main account.
The concept is similar to Apple's "Hide My Email," introduced in 2021 for iCloud+ users, which generates random burner addresses for privacy. Other platforms like Bitwarden and DuckDuckGo have also implemented comparable solutions.
In addition, Google recently launched the Android System Key Verifier app, which enhances security by allowing users to verify encryption keys in their communications, ensuring they are interacting with the intended recipients. These developments highlight Google’s increasing focus on privacy and secure digital interactions.
