Microsoft Enhances Text Contrast for Windows Chromium Browsers

Microsoft has improved text contrast for all Chromium-based browsers on Windows, including Google Chrome and Edge, by integrating enhanced gamma correction and text rendering adjustments. This update ensures font clarity now aligns with native Windows applications.

The changes, made available through Chromium's open-source project, also allow the ClearType Text Tuner tool to fine-tune text contrast settings for these browsers. Microsoft attributes previous text clarity issues to the Skia rendering engine used in Chromium, which produced lighter and sometimes blurry text, particularly in CJK characters.

The update addresses this issue by aligning text rendering with DirectWrite, a technology previously exclusive to legacy Microsoft Edge. Feedback from users is encouraged via Edge settings or the Chromium bug tracker.
