Microsoft has offered a solution for users experiencing blocked security updates on certain Windows 11 24H2 systems. The issue occurs when installing Windows 11 from media that includes the October or November 2024 cumulative updates, leaving devices unable to accept further security updates. However, systems updated via Windows Update or media with security updates from December 2024 onward remain unaffected.
To resolve the issue, Microsoft recommends reinstalling Windows 11 using media with updates released since December 2024. Users are advised to avoid installations using older media containing the problematic updates to prevent this issue altogether. Additionally, Microsoft announced a January 2025 optional update fixing a bug that prevented non-admin users from changing their time zone, with a broader rollout planned for February.
