Microsoft Retires Authenticator Autofill, Urges Users to Switch to Edge

Microsoft is phasing out the password autofill and storage feature in its Authenticator app, with full deprecation set for August 2025.

The company plans to streamline password management by shifting all autofill support to the Microsoft Edge browser.

Users must export their saved credentials from Authenticator before August 1, 2025, or risk losing access to them.

Beginning in June 2025, users won’t be able to save new passwords in Authenticator, and by July, autofill and stored payment details will no longer function. To keep using saved passwords, Microsoft recommends installing Edge on mobile devices and syncing data through a Microsoft account.

While passwords can be exported to another manager, payment info must be re-entered manually for security.
