Microsoft is investigating a persistent bug causing the mouse pointer to disappear within the classic Outlook desktop client, nearly two months after initial user reports emerged. Affected individuals describe the application becoming nearly unusable as the cursor vanishes while navigating the interface, though email items still change color when hovered over. The issue has also been reported in OneNote and other Microsoft 365 applications, though with less frequency.
Microsoft has acknowledged the problem in a support document and is actively investigating, though no permanent fix timeline has been established. Administrators of affected organizations are requested to open support cases with the Outlook team and submit diagnostic logs to aid the investigation. Three temporary workarounds have been provided, including clicking an email in the message list, switching to PowerPoint and back, or restarting the computer entirely.
The company notes that the pointer disappearance occurs during normal mouse movement across the Outlook interface. This bug follows last month's resolution of a separate issue where Microsoft 365 customers could not open encrypted emails after December 2025 updates. Microsoft continues to gather data from affected users while working toward a comprehensive solution for the vanishing cursor problem.
