Windows 11 24H2 Update Hits WSUS Users with Installation Failures

The KB5063878 cumulative update for Windows 11 24H2, released earlier this week, is failing to install for many systems using Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), with error code 0x80240069 frequently reported. Affected administrators also note event log messages stating that the Windows Update service stopped unexpectedly.

Reports from IT pros show widespread failures across WSUS and SCCM-managed devices, with very few successful installations. This problem appears to be limited to enterprise setups using WSUS, leaving home users unaffected.

Microsoft has not yet confirmed the issue or provided an official fix, though some admins have found success by manually importing the update using specific Update IDs. A similar WSUS delivery problem occurred in April, impacting Windows 11 22H2/23H2, and was eventually resolved through a Known Issue Rollback in May. This recurrence raises concerns over ongoing reliability issues with enterprise update distribution.
