Microsoft is enhancing File Explorer in Windows 11 with new features aimed at improving user experience. In Windows 11 Build 22635.4515, currently available to Beta Channel testers, File Explorer introduces tabbed browsing, allowing folders to open as new tabs within the same window instead of creating multiple windows. This change helps reduce desktop clutter and has been one of the most requested updates from users.
For those who prefer separate windows, holding the Ctrl key while opening a folder still provides that option, ensuring flexibility. Additionally, File Explorer now offers better control over OneDrive backup reminders. Users can snooze the "Start backup" prompt for a month or disable it entirely through a simple right-click menu.
These updates, part of Microsoft’s broader efforts to refine File Explorer, also address bugs like dropdown menus displaying outside the window. Although the features aren’t enabled by default yet, an official announcement is expected soon, with the improvements set to roll out in Windows 11 23H2 and 24H2 versions.
