DroidMorph Research Shows Android Antivirus Failing To Detect Cloned Malicious Apps

Recent research has discovered that Android anti-virus software is still vulnerable to malware writers using stealthy mutations to continuously develop malware clones, thwarting detection by signature-based detectors. Since Android apps can be downloaded from third-party sources, it is easy to disguise a malicious app as a legitimate one. Malware authors can expand on this technique to develop multiple clones of the rogue software with varying levels of abstraction and obfuscation to disguise their true intent and slip through the defense barriers created by anti-malware engines.
