How to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode
Windows 2000/2003/XP/Vista/Seven/2008
- Start your computer.
- Immediately as the computer starts, press and hold the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
- Select Safe mode, and then press Enter.
- If prompted, log on as administrator.
Windows 8
- Hold the Shift button and press the F8 key. You will see "Recovery mode".
- Click "See advanced repair options".
- Choose "Troubleshoot".
- Choose "Advanced options".
- Choose "Windows Startup Settings".
- Click Restart.
Your PC reboots and you will be able to boot into Safe Mode.
If you could not start the computer in Safe mode
- Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box or use Windows search feature.
- Type: msconfig
press Enter.
If the User Account Control window appears, accept the program execution. - Click OK, Restart.
After you finish your work in Safe mode, use the System Configuration Utility to get back in Normal mode.
If you have Windows 8/7/Vista,
- Choose the Boot tab, check Safe boot.
- Click OK, Restart.
If you have Windows XP
- Check /SAFEBOOT on the BOOT.INI tab.
- Click OK, Restart.
